Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his first championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to win a title is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive approach and regular reactions on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour title, took control to force a decider.

Moutet saved four early-game chances in a tight final set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
